The Smestow Valley Local Nature Reserve is an area of natural parkland, which stretches from Aldersley to Castlecroft. The area has become a haven for wildlife with over 150 acres of woodland, water features and meadows which stretch 2.5 miles through the valley of the Smestow Brook.

Walks of various lengths can be made using both the railway track bed and the towpath of the Staffs and Worcs canal. It is also possible to continue into the countryside of South Staffordshire.

Smestow Valley, which includes the Valley Park Pathway, was officially declared a local nature reserve in April 1998.
